American arrested after unruly behavior at China Daily office

Police arrested an African-American for unruly behavior at China Daily’s Hong Kong office in Aberdeen on Thursday.

Darryl Penrice, 38, said to be a former English teacher on the mainland, stormed into the office to follow through on his request that the state-backed newspaper publish his story about being persecuted by the US government, Apple Daily reported Friday.

After a while, police said, Penrice became unruly, assaulted some of the staff and even hit the glass door, causing it to crack.

Several policemen came to the office in response to the staff’s call for help and used pepper spray on him after he tried to grab one of the officers’ police batons.

Several police officers and staff members were hurt in the scuffle.

As he was being led away, Penrice shouted: “CY Leung knows about this!” , “The Chief Executive knows about this!” and “The Commissioner of Police knows about this!”

Penrice was charged with criminal damage, common assault, assault on police, obstructing police officer in due execution of duty, and unlawful stay in Hong Kong.
