Two airport bus passengers injured as tire explodes

Two passengers were injured on a bus bound for Hong Kong airport after one of its rear tires exploded, Metro newspaper reported Tuesday.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. Sunday while the bus was cruising in Tung Chung, the report said.

Photos taken on the spot, which later went viral on social media, show the explosion was strong enough to blow away part of the bus flooring and damage the seats directly above the tires. Blood was also seen on the floor.

The driver stopped the bus immediately after the explosion and found two female passengers, aged 38 and 68, sustaining wounds in the feet. Both were rushed to the hospital.

Police were still investigating the cause of the explosion.
