Some men have a lot to learn to help a woman out of her clothes.
It was such a challenge for Gavin Golightly from the English county of Durham he lost his cool, then his head and finally his wife.
Golightly, a tattoo artist, and Amy Dawson, an accountancy student, had just retired to bed after their wedding ceremony when the incident happened, the New York Post reported Wednesday.
Wedding day had begun brilliantly for the couple, with a romantic ceremony in St. Mary’s Church in the village of West Rainton, followed by a town hall-style reception.
The bride was resplendent in white.
But by the next morning, things had turned nasty as the couple went to bed.
Dawson asked Golightly to help her take her wedding dress off.
But Golightly apparently struggled with the task, became angry and attacked Dawson.
Golightly is facing assault charges.
“The defendant [Golightly] tried to undo Ms. Dawson’s dress. She received a crochet [to undo the dress with, but the defendant then refused to undo his new wife’s dress,” prosecutor Sarah Traynor told a Magistrates Court, the Sunderland Echo reported.
“The defendant then jumped up from his chair, approached Ms. Dawson and pushed her over.
“He then sat on top of her and started punching her with clenched fists. He then got up and left the room. It appears that the defendant then came back to the room.”
Dawson received a cut above her left eye and bruises to her face and chest.
“When I first met Gavin, he was lovely, I couldn’t fault him,” Dawson told the Sunderland Echo.
Golightly claimed his drinks must have been spiked before the assault as he could not remember the incident.
However, he pleaded guilty to a single count of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Dawson has filed for divorce.
“He means nothing to me now.”
