Mainland tourists peeved as hope of Disneyland trip fizzles out

A family of six visiting Hong Kong from the mainland called police when they discovered that their long-hoped-for visit to Disneyland was not on their tour’s itinerary, Ming Pao Daily reported.

The family from Nanjing, Jiangsu province, bought the tour package for 4,600 yuan (US$736) from Taobao, China’s largest online shopping mall, run by Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd.

They were told they could go to Disneyland on Saturday to watch a fireworks display, the report said.

However, it turned out on the day that the itinerary only included a stop in front of the gate of movie star Andy Lau Tak-wah’s mansion at Kadoorie Hill in Ho Man Tin.

Later, the tour bus took the family and the other mainland tourists to shop in Hung Hom.

The family felt cheated and began to quarrel with the tour guide after they got off the bus. They then called the police.

When the police arrived, they found out that the members of the family were individual tourists who had joined the tour group without having signed a tour contract in advance. The tour guide was not aware they had not signed a contract.

All the others on the tour were aware of the itinerary.

The police left after making sure no criminal offense had been committed.
