The Beijing News has taken a different angle in its report on the toilet incident that caused a Dragonair flight to the capital to be delayed by nearly three hours, Apple Daily reported Wednesday.
A woman, surnamed Liu, was ordered off the plane in Hong Kong by the captain Saturday when she got into a heated row with cabin crew after refusing to close the toilet door while cleaning the diaper of her 18-month-old son in the sink.
The mainland newspaper quoted the mother as saying that flight attendants accused her son of having the Ebola virus. She said several other passengers also heard the attendant making the claim.
Liu told the paper she did not understand why she was sent off the plane and urged passengers to supply video of the incident so that she can pursue her rights.
A Dragonair representative said the crew did mention concern about seasonal flu and Ebola during their conversations with Liu, but that was not targeted at the child, who was feeling unwell.
There could have been some miscommunication, the representative said.
Liu apologized in tears to the passengers before she got off the plane, the Beijing News report said. She got on another flight back to Beijing later that night.
Dragonair issued a statement Tuesday saying the conversations between the flight attendants and the passenger centered on the importance of hygiene in the cabin.
The airline said there were also public announcements to all passengers on board asking for their cooperation to prevent the spreading of infectious diseases.
