Shanghai has again topped the list in a ranking of Chinese cities in terms of their attractiveness for expatriates, China Daily reported, citing a survey being released on Monday.
The financial hub scored the highest marks on some key indexes for foreigners to evaluate cities, including the policies for expat professionals and the working and living environment, the report said.
Other cities in the top 10 in China that are favored by expats are Beijing, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Xiamen and Kunming — in that order.
The survey, which was undertaken by International Talent magazine and the China Society for Research on International Professional Personnel Exchange and Development, was based on feedback from nearly 20,000 foreign professionals throughout China in the second half of 2014.
Shanghai is considered to be the hottest destination but the survey revealed that expats still want some things to improve in the city.
About 40 percent said the environment in Shanghai－such as the air and water quality－is not good enough, while 14.3 percent hoped for improvements in public services, the report said.
More than half of the respondents hoped departments or organizations in Shanghai will improve medical insurance and services for foreigners, and simplify the procedures for them to enter the country.
