HK claims spot on new Monopoly edition after world fan vote

Next time you play Monopoly, you might find Hong Kong on the iconic board — and right where it should be.

Hong Kong landed a place on one of the most widely played board games after a worldwide fan vote.

Hasbro Inc., maker of the classic pastime, said Hong Kong will make its debut in its upcoming 80th anniversary edition, Apple Daily reported Friday.

The move follows a global survey in which Monopoly fans were asked to choose 20 cities from a list of 80 to be featured in the  game.

Hong Kong checked in at second place behind the Peruvian capital Lima and will take a dark blue space on the board as the second most expensive piece of land.

Riga, capital of the Baltic country of Latvia, came in third, followed by the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

London ranked 12th while Tokyo and Taipei were 14th and 20th, respectively. No mainland Chinese city made it.

The special edition of Monopoly, expected go on sale on Aug. 1 for 21.99 pounds (US$32.48) will not feature train stations or public utilities.

Players will compete for stamps and anyone that collects them all wins.
