A 72-year-old Briton, who traveled to Hong Kong for the Sevens rugby tournament, died just hours before kickoff.
The man had come from Malaysia with a group of friends for the event, Metro Hong Kong reported Friday.
He was found unconscious in his hotel room at the Vela Hotel in Wan Chai on Thursday and died in a hospital without regaining consciousness.
The victim, identified only as Michael, had cancer and was also suffering from other chronic diseases, the report said.
Police suspect no foul play and are treating the incident as death by natural causes.
The Hong Kong Sevens, one of the main highlights of Hong Kong’s sporting calendar, opened Friday and ends on Sunday.
It attracts thousands of fans from around the world.
