A 49-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after photos of dog meat being processed in a restaurant back alley surfaced on social media.
The woman, surnamed Lai, owns a Vietnamese restaurant in Hong Kong’s Sham Shui Po district. She was released on bail and instructed to report to the police in May.
The photos went viral after they were posted on Facebook on Friday, according to Metro Daily.
A netizen who posted the images said he saw the severed head of a dog in a basket and a man cutting meat which he believes to be that of the animal.
The photos show a basket containing what appears to be fresh meat and a man working next to it in a back alley.
Police arrested Lai on suspicion of complicity and are looking for the man in the photos.
They collected evidence from the site and from closed circuit television for any clues about his identity or whereabouts
Investigators are awaiting test results to determine if animal bones found in the area match their own findings.
