Nearly 40,000 apply for early-bird tickets for Slide the City

Nearly 40,000 people have registered online for a ballot for 10,000 early-bird tickets to Slide the City, which features a 300-meter water slide, Sky Post reported Thursday.

The outdoor attraction will be operated by a US firm from Aug. 22 to 24 at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal.

Lots will be drawn for the early-bird tickets, which are being offered at a discount.

The results of the lottery will be announced Monday, Slide the City representative Chan Ka-kin said in an announcement Wednesday.

Chan said winners of the balloting, who will be notified by email, will be able to buy up to two early-bird tickets each.

A HK$120 (US$15.47) ticket will get the holder a single slide, and a HK$420 pass will allow unlimited use of the slide for a day.

The remaining 10,000 tickets will go on sale online from June 22 at HK$150 for the single ticket and HK$480 for the unlimited pass.

Tickets will be sold online only, and no walk-ins will be allowed. Ticket holders will be offered a shuttle bus ride to the venue.

No more than 6,000 users will be allowed per day, and they must be at least eight years old.

Workers will be stationed 10 meters apart along the slide to ensure the safety of sliders and to give stranded ones a supporting push if needed, Chan said.

There will be a selfie contest for sliders.

The attraction will be the first of its kind with a seascape in the background, Chan said.

It may be moved to May or June next year if it proves to be highly popular, he said.
