Restaurant cashier slapped for butting in as guests try to pay

A cashier at a dim sum restaurant was slapped four times after she butted in when two men were trying to pay for a meal, Apple Daily reported Monday.

A man in a black shirt, aged between 30 and 40 and about 1.87 meters tall, whose image was captured by closed-circuit television at the restaurant early Sunday, is wanted by police.

The owner of the restaurant on Luen On Street in Ngau Tau Kok said a group of about 20 people sat down at four tables around midnight.

A dozen of them left after paying the bill, while six men and two women decided to stay behind for a chat.

They ordered four more dim sum dishes and stayed until around 4 a.m.

When two men both offered to settle the bill of HK$70, a cashier surnamed Chong said it made no difference who paid.

The man in the black shirt did not take kindly to Chong’s remark and wasted no time in slapping her in the face.

He then took out a HK$100 note from his wallet.

Foul language flew as the rest of the group joined in a shouting match. Some of them swept dishes off the dim sum carts.

The man in black went up to Chong and gave her three more slaps. The cashier was sent to hospital.

The restaurant said it had suffered a loss of HK$300 after the dishes went flying.

Police took the CCTV footage for further investigation.

Members of the group had reportedly identified themselves as triads.
