Ocean Park to hire 1,200 ‘ghosts’ for Halloween Fest

Ever dressed up as a ghost at Halloween?

You can do that this year and get paid for it — by Ocean Park.

The theme park’s website says it plans to hire more than 2,000 temporary workers for its Halloween Fest 2015, which will run from August to November.

These will include 1,200 staff who will be dressed as ghosts to spook visitors, 400 backstage workers and more than 600 front-line and support workers, Apple Daily reported Wednesday.

The number of ghosts is the most ever for the theme park, which used to deploy 600 per night during similar events in the past. There will be 666 this year.

The temporary job pays as much as HK$185 (US$23.86) per hour.

Those whose performance is outstanding may be taken on as permanent employees.

Other roles for the Scream Team that need to be filled include dancers, stunt performers, gymnasts, mascots and singers. Their hourly pay ranges from HK$50 to HK$145.

The first recruiting event will be held Sunday.

Eva Au Yeung, Ocean Park’s director of events and entertainment, said auditions will be conducted in four parts, including face-to-face interviews, assessment of spontaneous responses, script reading and test play.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong Disneyland will launch actor auditions on the same day at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for its Haunted Halloween event.
