Cathay pilots to launch industrial action

Cathay Pacific pilots said they would launch industrial action to protest new work arrangements in the airline, Ming Pao Daily reported on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the airline said management is aware of the pilots’ plans, and will take measures to ensure that flights are not affected.

He said the airline is continuing to hold talks with the Hong Kong Aircrew Officers Association to address their grievances.

Meanwhile, Cathay Pacific dropped to third place in this year’s Skytrax World Airline Awards.

Qatar Airways won the best airline award after placing second in the past two years, while Singapore Airlines was named second best overall.

Cathay won the top award on four occasions, including last year.

AirAsia was named the best budget airline this year, its seventh to date.

The annual Skytrax awards are based on a survey of 18.9 million passengers across 105 countries. Criteria include quality of meals, comfortability of seats and friendliness of air stewards.

This year’s survey covered 245 airlines.
