Mainland student changes plea, admits sex at Poly U bus stop

A mainland student of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University admitted in court that she had sex in the street just hours after she and her co-accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of committing an act outraging public decency, Apple Daily reported on Friday.

Wu Xinyi, 18, and her partner Yang Hao, 19, a mainland student of the Hong Kong Baptist University, were captured on video having sex on the pavement at a bus stop on Fat Kwong Street in Ho Man Tin, right in front of Poly U’s student dormitory, in the early morning of April 1.

Both were later arrested and granted bail.

In a court hearing on Thursday, the two pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the judge set the next hearing on Aug. 13. But two hours later, Wu returned to the court after a discussion with her lawyer and entered a guilty plea.

She told the judge she deeply regretted what she had done.

Her lawyer appealed for the court’s mercy, saying the case might keep her from continuing her studies and she had learned her lesson after the extensive press coverage of the incident.

The judge granted her bail and set a hearing on July 8 for the ruling.
