Emaciated monkey found in Tsuen Wan village home

A small and emaciated monkey was taken to a veterinarian after it was found to have strayed into a private residence in Wo Yee Hop village in Tsuen Wan, Ming Pao Daily reported on Monday.

The homeowner, a 43-year-old woman, called the police after she saw the monkey lying on the toilet floor at around 10 a.m. on Sunday. It appeared to be very weak and ill.

The monkey cowered underneath the toilet bowl upon seeing the police officers.

The monkey, confirmed to be a female, sustained a cut in the right paw, but it was not clear what prompted the animal to seek shelter in the village home.

It was later taken away by staff from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department before transferring it to the New Territories North Animal Management Center for further inspection.

It will be set free in a country park if it is found to be capable of looking after itself, the report said.
