Facebook has opened its first business office in Africa, in Johannesburg, South Africa, to serve businesses across the continent.
The social media giant said the new office is the first step in furthering its investment in Africa and its people.
The sales team will focus initially on sub-Saharan Africa: Kenya in East Africa, Nigeria in West Africa and South Africa.
The company said that Africa, with more than a billion people, is an important region to it.
Facebook’s active user population in Africa has grown 20 percent to 120 million this month from 100 million in September last year.
In this year’s first quarter, 52 percent of the firm’s advertising revenue came from outside the United States and Canada.
