A couple may be charged with cruelty to animals after they left five dogs in a village home in Yuen Long without food and water for many days, Apple Daily reported on Tuesday.
The dogs, including a female mongrel and four puppies, were thin and weak when they were found by the owner of the house in Ma Tin Pok Tsuen on Monday.
The owner, a 63-year-old man surnamed Lee, said the property had been leased to a couple.
But when he went there around 10 a.m., no one was around, although he could smell bad odor and hear the dogs barking.
He called the police after finding the starving dogs in the garden.
Neighbors said the dogs’ owners had left the house for many days.
The dogs were taken by representatives of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
