Four detained for distributing Uniqlo sex video online

Four people involved with distributing a sex video filmed in a branch of Uniqlo, a popular Japanese clothing retailer, have been detained, Beijing police said Sunday night.

Investigations began July 15 after police received complaints about the indecent video clip, Beijing News reported Monday, citing a statement posted on the official police website.

The minute-long video clip was reportedly taken in mid-April and went viral online last week.

It shows a bespectacled man in black standing behind a naked woman as they engage in sex in what appears to be a fitting room in a Uniqlo store.

Some netizens deduced it was the fitting room of the Uniqlo store in Sanlitun, a trendy district of Beijing.

Beijing police said a 19-year-old man surnamed Sun from Qiqihar, Heilongjiang province, is under criminal detention, charged with spreading obscene objects, for uploading the clip to Weibo.

It attracted millions of views and thousands of comments.

The other three people were under administrative detention for spreading obscene messages.

Police are also dealing with the couple in the video, the report said.

The clothing chain, which is operated by Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. (06288.HK), said in a statement Sunday night that none of its managers were taken away by police.

The firm said earlier that it reported the case to police and denied the video was a marketing stunt.

A lawyer at Jingrun and Partners was quoted as saying Sun could face up to two years in jail if his crime is considered a serious one.

The other three might be detained for up to 15 days and assessed a maximum fine of 3,000 yuan (US$483).

The couple may face detention for up to 10 days for intentionally exposing their bodies in public places, the lawyer said.
