United Arab Emirates flag carrier Etihad Airways is seeing robust demand for its over-the-top luxury offering, a three-room suite called The Residence.
It will be available on the New York-Abu Dhabi flights from December.
Although at US$32,000 per ticket, the Airbus A380 first-class flight is not for everyone, many have already placed advance bookings, Bloomberg News reported.
The package includes a living room, private bathroom and two-person bedroom, which are separated from other passengers in the nose of the doubledecker jet’s upper level. A private butler is also provided.
“We have experienced an overwhelmingly positive response to the Residence within the US — beyond our expectations, in fact,” Etihad chief executive James Hogan said during an unveiling of the suite at the Global Business Travel Association convention in Orlando, Florida, on Monday. “We are seeing healthy forward bookings.”
Etihad spent six years developing the Residence and has deployed it on A380s on overseas routes, such as Abu Dhabi to London, the news agency said.
It has ordered only 10 A380s from Airbus Group SE. There are no plans to offer the service in the US outside of New York, Hogan said.
Each Residence booking on the Abu Dhabi-New York flight would be equivalent to the price of about 26 of Etihad’s “economy saver” seats on that trip, based on prices from the airline’s website for December, Bloomberg said. The cheapest of those tickets lists for US$1,225.
