Hong Kong guys are the manliest in Asia, HK survey shows

Hong Kong guys are the most macho in the region, according to a survey conducted by the Hong Kong Baptist University.

The poll, commissioned by lighter maker Zippo, interviewed some 1,000 Hong Kong people of both sexes aged 18 to 35.

It showed that Hong Kong men are considered the manliest in Asia, followed by guys in Taiwan and South Korea. Japan ranks fourth, followed by Singapore and mainland China.

However, the score given Hong Kong males is only 6.13 with 10 being the highest score. The score drops further to 5.72 if only the female respondents are considered.

Andy Lau Tak-wah is considered as the manliest among Hong Kong male stars, followed by Chow Yun-fat and Daniel Wu.

Nick Cheung Ka-fai, on the other hand, is considered as having played the manliest film role as a former boxing champion in the movie Unbeatable.

On social media, the “Golden Brothers” on popular online forum hkgolden.com are rated the most classical image of the Hong Kong male, receiving a score of 34.5 percent, followed by “Mongkok Boys” with 20.8 percent and Ah Yuen, a youngster who gained public attention for leading a life of a modern-day recluse, with 10 percent.

Firefighters, pilots, doctors and lawyers are considered the manliest occupations, while gardeners and hairstylists are the least manly ones, the survey also showed.

Last but not least, the top three qualities of manliness are responsibility, considerateness, and physical strength and appearance, according to the survey.
