Tips on how to ace your social media job interview

In recent years, there has been a significant growth of social media jobs. Apparently, such openings appeal to many youngsters. After all, growing up with Facebook and Instagram, they belong to the digital era.

Being a social media person, I have gathered some interview questions from my circle of friends for this article.

If you are a newbie and interested in social media jobs, you should prepare yourself for the following interview questions. (We won’t be talking about questions related to specific social media knowledge here.)

“Have you got any hobbies?”

Employers would like to know that because if you have broad interests, most likely, you have a strong network. There is also a bigger chance you can handle a wide range of topics, which is crucial to creating social media content.

“How do you feel about overtime?”

Frankly speaking, due to the job nature, you will often be required to work overtime. Employers want to get an idea about your attitude and see if you’re psychologically prepared.

“This industry keeps transforming. What do you think about it?”

Interviewees should give examples to demonstrate how you can learn quickly and respond to changes flexibly.

“How do you acquire new knowledge?”

Employers do not exactly need to know the actual websites you visit or magazines you read. They simply want to find out your knowledge of the world and how you keep improving yourself.

“How do you come to our office?”

This is a regular warm-up question. Believe it or not, my friends told me that it can reflect the personality traits of interviewees.

“How would you rate your skills set?”

The interviewer will ask you to give a rating for each specific skill on the list so as to find out your strengths and weaknesses.

In short, most of my friends believe that for this industry, which is full of changes, attitude matters more than knowledge. For instance, terms for Facebook and YouTube are updated from time to time. Being a keen learner is therefore very important.

Don’t forget to show your passion! It’s hard to survive in the sea of uncertainties without it.
