Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. has been named the world’s top-earning actor for the third year in a row by Forbes magazine.
He took first place on a list that featured leading men from Bollywood as well as Hollywood for the first time, Reuters reported.
In second place is veteran Chinese actor and martial arts star Jackie Chan.
Downey, 50, earned an estimated US$80 million in the 12 months to June this year, bolstered by the success of this year’s superhero ensemble flick Avengers: Age of Ultron, which grossed more than US$1.3 billion worldwide.
Chan, 61, earned US$50 million in the past year from Hollywood-China co-productions such as Dragon Blade as well as merchandise, Forbes said Tuesday.
It quoted Chan as saying: “I always look at the map … I think the world belongs to us. America belongs to me. China belongs to you.”
Vin Diesel grabbed third place with US$47 million, mainly from his stake in the Fast and Furious franchise, which grossed US$1.5 billion worldwide, US$400 million in China alone, the magazine said.
Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, all staples of Indian cinema, also featured in the top 10.
Bachchan, 72, and Khan, 49, tied at No. 7 with US$33.5 million each. Kumar, 47, came in at No. 9 with US$32.5 million.
The magazine will publish a list of the world’s highest-paid actresses later.
