Frenchman jumps to death at HK airport

A French national jumped to his death at the Hong Kong International Airport Tuesday evening, with a note found in his luggage suggesting that he was depressed due to relationship problems.

The man, who was 55 years in age, crashed on to a shuttle train platform within the airport after jumping from an upper floor, Apple Daily reported.

The incident took place at around 8 pm at a platform where a shuttle train ferries passengers between various airline boarding gates.

He was certified dead at the scene.

Witnesses were quoted as saying that the man, who is said to bear the first name Thierry, had been walking back and forth outside a luxury handbag shop for a long time before the accident.

He was wearing red shirt and holding a boarding pass for a midnight flight of Cathay Pacific to France.

Police found in his luggage a suicide note which showed that he was troubled due to personal relationship issues.

It is believed that the man jumped over the railings near the shop where he had been pacing up and down.

Finding no evidence of foul play, the police are treating it as a case of suicide.
