A young mother and her two sons were injured when part of the ceiling collapsed in a shopping mall at the Tseung Kwan O MTR station.
The 30-year-old woman, surnamed Fan, injured her feet while her children suffered scratches on their arms and face, according to Headline Daily.
They were taken to hospital and were discharged after receiving treatment.
Fan’s husband and her sister’s family of three who were with the group were unhurt.
The collapse gouged a hole in the ceiling and littered the floor with debris from gypsum board, aluminum and concrete.
It happened at about 6.50 p.m. on Thursday in the MTR PopCorn mall near a station exit.
The mall’s location means it has a high volume of foot traffic.
As many as 110,000 people pass through the area, a tenth during the evening, MTR staff said.
The mass railway operator sent staff to visit the victims in hospital and apologized for the incident.
It said it will investigate the incident and inspect all its shopping malls for any defective ceilings.
Sai Kung district councilor Christine Fong said the shopping mall has been open only three years.
She said the collapse could have been caused by dripping water, weakening the gypsum board while making it heavier than the load capacity of the aluminum support.
Fong urged the MTR to inspect all ceilings and suspended structures in all stations.
