SCMP looking for a new business editor

A search is under way for a new business editor at the South China Morning Post after Nick Edwards decided to leave “to pursue other interests”.

Jonathan Standing will step up as acting business editor on Sept. 11, pending the appointment of Edwards’ replacement, according to an internal memo obtained by EJ Insight.

Edwards and Standing joined SCMP from Reuters.

Standing came aboard last summer as a deputy editor in charge of production.

He is responsible for the rollout of the new Methode editorial production system developed by the Washington Post.

Edwards led the Post’s business section for more than two years, the longest serving business editor in a decade.

The job is said to have a two-year jinx in that its occupant rarely lasts that long.

Edwards joined the group in May 2013, the third business editor in 10 years.
