Shoplifter strikes Causeway Bay luxury shop twice in minutes

A shoplifter hit a Causeway Bay luxury shop twice in a matter of minutes and made off with more than HK$10,000 (US$1,290) worth of merchandise.

The missing goods were discovered the next day when the shop owner, surnamed Chan, was making an inventory, according to Ming Pao Daily.

Chan said she reviewed the CCTV footage from the previous day and found the culprit in the act.

She hides it underneath her cardigan and is gone from DunDun Italy Luxury shop in 10 seconds.

About 12 minutes later, the woman returns to the same shop in Island Beverley Center and helps herself to a black Prada handbag worth HK$7,000 without paying for it.

The suspect distracted the shop assistant by asking her to get something from the shelf, Chan said.

She again slipped the merchandise under her sweater.

A series of posts on the retailer’s Facebook page gives a blow-by-blow account of the Aug. 27 incident.

The woman kept the shop assistants busy by asking them for a dust bag and paper bag.

The CCTV footage was later uploaded on Facebook with a warning to other shop assistants and an appeal for information about the suspect.

Police are treating the incident as theft.
