Swiss passenger arrested for groping 3 Cathay flight attendants

Airport police arrested a Swiss passenger after he allegedly groped three flight attendants on a Cathay Pacific flight from Switzerland to Hong Kong, Apple Daily reported Wednesday.

The 45-year-old Swiss, named Thomas, was arrested upon arrival Tuesday on suspicion of three counts of indecent assault.

He was traveling to Hong Kong on his own for leisure.

Two flight attendants, aged 25 and 28, complained about being inappropriately touched when they walked past the man’s seat during the distribution of meals.

They reported the incidents to the 38-year-old purser, who approached Thomas to give him a warning.

It was not well received, and the passenger then touched the purser’s bottom.

The pilot informed the airport police when he was told of the man’s behavior.

Police boarded the plane to arrest Thomas when the plane landed in Hong Kong at 7:03 a.m. Tuesday.

A Cathay Pacific representative said the airline strives to provide a safe working environment for its staff, and any employee subjected to abuse should immediately report it to his or her superior and the pilot.

A verbal or written warning will be given by the purser, and police will be called if the need arises.

In July, a 60-year-old Australian retiree was jailed for seven days for indecently assaulting a flight attendant.

Cathay Pacific Flight Attendants Union vice-chairman Julian Yau Chi-hung said the union has a zero-tolerance policy toward indecent assault.

Yau urged flight attendants not to tolerate such incidents.
