Universal Studios aims to complete a Hollywood theme park in Beijing by 2019 following the signing of an agreement with Chinese authorities.
On Sept. 13, the American media and entertainment company inked a pact with Beijing deputy mayor Li Shixiang to mark the launch of the project, Apple Daily reported.
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of NBC Universal in New York. It came ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States.
The 50-billion-yuan project, which won approval from Beijing authorities last September, will be built in Tong Zhou district east of Beijing.
It will be the sixth theme park built by Universal Studios globally. The project, spread over an area of 400 hectares, will be the company’s largest theme park ever, topping the current No. 1 in Florida.
Renowned Hollywood director Steven Spielberg will be involved in the design of the Beijing Park which will include many Chinese elements.
