Burglars ransacked a house in Tai Po’s upmarket Hong Lok Yuen (康樂園) residential estate, stealing jewelry worth HK$1 million and HK$50,000 of cash, Headline Daily reported Monday.
The 41-year-old woman, surnamed Liu, who owns the house was shocked to find the place in a mess when she returned home at around 11 p.m. on Saturday.
She found the balcony door open, and the thieves may have broken through a fence.
At around the same time Saturday night, a 48-year-old woman surnamed Cheng called police to her house on Nam Pin Wai Road in Sai Kung after burglars broke in.
Cheng lost HK$40,000 in cash and about HK$280,000 worth of valuables.
