Taxi seatbelt quarrel ends with shattered windshield

Five men waited until they had gotten off a taxi before smashing its rear windshield with a stool.

The 43-year-old driver, surnamed Lam, said he turned around when he heard a loud crash and saw his rear windshield shattered.

The culprits fled before police arrived, according to Apple Daily.

Lam said the men might have been angry after he quarrelled with one of them when he refused to wear his seat belt.

He said he threatened to abort the trip unless the front passenger complied.

The group had flagged him in Sham Shui Po and asked to be brought to Yau Ma Tei.

After the men alighted and paid the fare, Lam said he heard the sound of breaking glass from behind.

He turned to find shards on the back seat and on the top of the back compartment.
