Police are investigating eight firemen at Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station following a report from a junior firefighter that he was sexually harassed by them more than once, Apple Daily reported Friday.
The unidentified 29-year-old man, who has been with the force for about four years and is reportedly timid by nature, told police Tuesday that at least seven of his senior colleagues forced him to take off his pants while he was on duty last year.
They then forced him to undergo manual stimulation of his sexual organ, he said.
The man said it was not the first time he had been violated by his colleagues.
The newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying the firefighter had tried to commit suicide because of the bullying and sexual harassment but was talked out of it by friends.
Police officers from the West Kowloon crime unit took the eight accused firemen away from the station Thursday morning.
The unit, which classified the case as “request for police assistance”, said it is following up on the case and no arrests have been made so far.
Some of the accused claimed they had just been playing with their younger colleague.
An internal e-mail from the fire station said the eight firefighters, including a senior fireman in charge of training and mobilizing duties, will be transferred from their division starting Sunday.
In reply to media enquiry, a spokesman for the Fire Services Department said it is very concerned about the incident and that any staff who commit offences against discipline will be punished accordingly.
Some firefighters told the paper Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station is not the only one where junior firemen have been bullied, but they also said they were shocked by this incident.
The report said there may have been other victims at the fire station, as a photo leaked online showed four firemen in uniform pushing a man who is naked below the waist onto a table and holding his legs and head down.
The photo shows another fireman stuffing cream cake into the victim’s buttocks.
