The Vienna Boys Choir, the world-famous Austrian youth ensemble, has picked Hong Kong for its first overseas primary school.
Irene Au, director of the Vienna Boys Choir Music Academy Hong Kong, said the choir has established a foundation to help build schools overseas.
Hong Kong was chosen because of the musical potential of local students, she said.
The academy has been offering music courses in Hong Kong for the past three years, according to Sky Post.
The new school, scheduled to open in 2018, will offer primary and kindergarten classes and expects a first batch of 300 students, Au said.
The choir is seeking a land grant for the school building and expects to file the papers next year.
Children with or without experience or certifications can apply for an interview and be considered for scholarships.
Tuition fees have yet to be decided, she said
Enrollees are required to complete the international baccalaureate diploma program and Austrian music courses.
