Steve Ballmer, the former chief executive of Microsoft, has revealed that he holds 4 percent stake in Twitter Inc, making him the third-biggest individual shareholder in the microblogging service operator.
Ballmer now owns more of Twitter than the company’s CEO Jack Dorsey, Reuters reported. Dorsey is said to hold 3.2 percent stake in the firm he co-founded.
Ballmer’s stake is worth more than US$800 million based on Twitter’s current market value. He is said to have built up his stake over the past several months.
“Glad I bought 4% past few months,” Ballmer tweeted Friday, while praising Dorsey’s efforts to make Twitter “leaner, more focused”.
Only Twitter co-founder Evan Williams and Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal have greater stakes among individual investors in the firm, according to the report.
