This just in: Something is rotten in new media offices

It’s fair to say that the early days of HK01, a new media venture in the pre-launch stage, were a stinker.

Quite literally.

The bad smell in its spanking new offices was so revolting staff refused to come to work, according to Apple Daily.

The source of their distress? A dead cat.

It should have been the end of the story but some employees said it was a bad omen.

They wanted a fung shui master to cleanse the premises of evil spirits.

But chief editor Ernest Chi would have none of it.

He said the whole thing was an accident and no further investigation will be made. No fung shui ceremony either.

The feline was trapped under the flooring and apparently starved to death or got electrocuted.

But it took weeks for the smell of rotting flesh to escape into the air and touch the walls, curtains, tables and everything else in the HK01 newsroom.

HK01 moved into the 10th-floor premises in The Octagon, a newly completed Grade A commercial building, in Sha Tsui Road in Tsuen Wan about a month ago.

The company is funded by entrepreneur Yu Pun-hoi, former boss of Ming Pao Daily News. It is scheduled to open in December.
