She could have lost her right hand, but a little girl was lucky enough to keep it after she stuck her arm into the gap between a glass door and the jamb at a shopping mall, Apple Daily reported Tuesday.
As the door closed, it trapped her arm and severely bruised it.
The accident took place at Metro City Plaza III in Tseung Kwan O at about 4 p.m. Monday when the seven-year-old girl, surnamed Chan, was on her way home with a domestic helper, who was also taking care of a boy in a stroller.
It is uncertain why the girl stuck her right hand, as far as the wrist, into the gap of one of the doors at the mall’s exit — perhaps she was trying to push open the glass door.
Her loud cry for help alerted a passerby, who called police.
The maid was too shocked to be able to do anything.
Police and firefighters arrived and assisted the girl.
Her mother rushed to the scene and accompanied her to hospital.
Police are investigating to determine what exactly happened and what caused the girl’s arm to be trapped.
The door has been blocked off since the accident.
