Motorcycle-riding man torches vans of pet food firm in Yuen Long

A local pet food delivery company has put up a reward of HK$500,000 for information that could lead to the arrest of a man who set fire to three of its vehicles in Yuen Long, Ming Pao Daily reported.

Passersby called the police after noticing the vans were on fire in front of APE Accessories of Pet Express along Kam Shui South Road in Yuen Long Pat Heung around 3 a.m. Thursday, Apple Daily said.

Firefighters soon arrived and put out the fire. Two of the vans were almost completely burned, while a third one was also damaged.

A review of the company’s CCTV video footage showed a man on motorcycle arriving at the scene.

He was seen breaking the window of a van and pouring liquid into the vehicle. He then left.

Four minutes later, the man came back and torched the van, this time succeeding after failing in his first attempt.

It is believed that the suspect first made a “site visit” on Wednesday night.

APE staff said this was the first time the company experienced such an attack after more than 10 years of operation.

The vans were estimated to be worth HK$300,000 each.
