Public buses, as well as MTR trains, have “priority seats” reserved for the elderly, disabled and other people who have difficulty standing up for a long time.
But on one KMB bus, a rather unusual sign asking passengers to make room for fellow commuters triggered a wave of discussions online, Headline Daily reported on Tuesday.
The sticker, with the figure of a man sitting on another passenger’s lap, carries the following words in Chinese and English: “Please let other passengers sit on your lap during rush hours.”
The Kowloon Motor Bus company issued a statement saying the sign was not an official one posted by the franchise and promising to remove it in due course.
One netizen surnamed Tam joked he would take KMB buses from now on, although he would like to choose whose lap to sit on.
Tam’s post quickly drew replies. “Well, it is other people’s choice, too,” said one.
Another netizen surnamed Cheung worried that “tragedies” could happen with such an arrangement, like if someone weighing 300 pounds would sit on the lap of slim young lady.
