Burglary suspect ends up in jail after getting high on drugs

A burglar has to make up his mind: commit the crime or indulge his drug addiction. He can’t do both at the same time.

A 53-year-old man surnamed Chow did both and ended up in jail.

At around midnight on Tuesday, Chow broke into a curtain shop on Shanghai Street in Mong Kok, but as he was looking for items to steal, he suddenly had an urge to take crystal methamphetamine, more popularly known as “ice”, Ming Pao Daily reported.

Getting high on the stuff, Chow decided to lie on the sofa for a while, but eventually fell asleep.

At around 5 a.m., a male employee surnamed Kong came in and roused Chow from his drugged slumber.

The suspect tried to escape, but Kong prevented him from doing so and called the police.

Responding officers recovered a few 10 Hong Kong dollar notes from Chow, along with a small amount of methamphetamine and a container apparently used for taking the drug.

It was believed that he entered the shop by climbing up the balcony in the back alley.

The suspect was taken to the police station and charged with possession of illegal drugs and drug-taking paraphernalia.
