Maid’s screams send burglar fleeing from luxury home

A burglar was scared away from a luxury home in Ho Man Tin by the screams of a maid but managed to make off with loot worth more than HK$600,000.

The burglary was discovered by the homeowner’s domestic helper, named Arligue, when she returned from her day off at around 8:45 p.m. Sunday.

She noticed that there were signs of the house in Braga Circuit having been ransacked and that the safe had been broken into, Headline Daily reported Tuesday.

Arligue screamed when she saw a shadow in the room.

She chased a man out of the house, but the burglar climbed over a wall and fled.

The homeowner, surnamed Fan, lost jewelry worth about HK$30,000 and four watches worth a total of HK$600,000.

He said he could have lost more if his maid hadn’t come home at that time.

Fan is reportedly a director of numerous companies.

A Porsche was parked outside his house.

Fan said he has been living in the house for over a decade and that security in Braga Circuit has been good all these years.

He believed that the burglar spotted an opportunity after Fan’s neighbor moved away recently.

Police are investigating. No one has been arrested.
