If you’re going to sneak hundreds of iPhone 6 smartphones across the border, don’t speed through a customs express lane in a Porsche SUV.
When a Hong Kong man did, he was busted by Shenzhen police.
The unnamed smuggler was driving the luxury sport utility vehicle with a cross-border license plate when he was stopped in Shenzhen Bay Port after trying to zip through a “nothing to declare” lane, Ming Pao Daily reports.
An X-Ray scan found 588 iPhone 6 smartphones, worth at least 1.2 million yuan (US$185,078), hidden behind the vehicle’s headlamps.
The suspect confessed to smuggling but that was not all.
A small pack of crystal meth, commonly known as the drug ice, was also found in his pocket.
The case has been transferred to China’s anti-smuggling department for further investigation.
Smuggling is punishable by 10 years to life imprisonment under Chinese law.
