Two mainlanders arrested in theft of HK$14,000 cash on plane

Two mainland Chinese on a flight to Hong Kong were arrested after cabin crew spotted the men taking HK$14,000 worth of foreign currencies from another passenger’s bag, Ming Pao Daily reported.

The two men, surnamed Ma, 50, and Wong, 25, allegedly stole US$1,200 and 420 British pounds (US$623) from a backpack on a plane from Nagoya at about 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Noticing the men behaving suspiciously on the flight and suspecting the backpack wasn’t theirs, the cabin crew called police upon arrival in Hong Kong.

Police advise travelers to remain vigilant and carefully look after their belongings. They should avoid putting valuables in the overhead compartments on planes.
