A teacher has been convicted of assault for spraying her students in the face with alcohol-based antiseptic solution at a primary school for mentally challenged children, Apple Daily reported Thursday.
Leung Pui-ki, 47, who taught at Po Leung Kuk Law’s Foundation School in Yuen Long, which caters for pupils who are severely mentally handicapped, will be sentenced Jan. 8 on 11 counts.
She was denied bail in Tuen Mun Magistrate’s Court.
Leung was caught on video spraying alcohol-based sanitizer in the face of seven children aged between six and seven years old in a classroom during the 2013-2014 school year.
In one video clip, she shouted at a student, “You look ugly crying!” and “Let me sterilize the moisture in the air” while spraying the liquid twice on the crying student.
Magistrate Winnie Lau Yee-wan said the students were very frightened by Leung’s actions.
The mother of one of the students said she is satisfied with the ruling, which she believes can have a deterrent effect on those who have ill intentions.
Po Leung Kuk said in a statement that it believes this was an isolated case.
It said closed-circuit cameras have been set up in classrooms at the school to enhance security and said it is reviewing its system for complaints.
Leung is no longer at the school.
