American School HK to start recruiting students in August

American School Hong Kong (ASHK), run by Esol Education of the United Arab Emirates, will start recruiting students from August next year.

The international school, which follows the US Common Core standards, will initially target students aged five to 11 years old, Ming Pao Daily reported on Monday. The annual tuition is at least HK$137,000.

It will offer courses from KG2 (Kindergarten 3 in the local school system) to Grade 6 next year, and gradually open courses for Grade 7 to Grade 12 in the future.

About 80 percent of the placement will go to non-Hong Kong residents.

For senior high school students, they can choose advanced placement in an American college, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.

All applicants will have to be interviewed.

The annual tuition for KG2 is HK$137,000, that for Grades 1 to 4 is HK$159,000, while that for Grades 5 to 6 is HK$169,000.

Parents can buy the school’s debentures, which cost HK$600,000 for individuals and HK$3 million for corporate buyers, to increase their chances of getting a placement.
