A high school student missing since Wednesday told friends she was going to Shek O and was going to jump off a cliff.
Lee Hiu-kwan, 20, sent messages to friends the next the day after leaving the family home in Yiu Tung Estate in Shau Kei Wan district because of school pressure, Apple Daily reports.
Her parents came to know about the messages when they contacted some of her classmates.
One said she was going to Big Wave Bay in Shek O and threatening to kill herself.
The parents reported her disappearance to the police on Thursday.
A search led by the Government Flying Service and fire services is under way.
On Thursday, rescue helicopters scoured an area on the Shek O shore where Lee is believed to have gone.
Searchers found some of Lee’s personal belongings including a mobile phone on the beach as her family watched.
Police said she might have fallen into the sea.
Lee’s photos have been circulated. She is described as 1.57 meters tall and weighs 49 kilos.
She was wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, black sport shoes and was carrying a green bag when she left home.
Her family is asking anyone who knows her whereabouts to come forward or contact the police (2860 6490 or 9886-0034).
Lee, a form six student in a North Point high school, is due to take the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education examination in April.
She is said to be suffering from emotional problems and has repeatedly told her parents she wants to kill herself.
