A police sergeant who lost his uniform after leaving it in his car is facing an internal investigation.
The 37-year-old officer, surnamed Fong, reported his uniform missing after parking his car in Hong Lai Garden in Tuen Mun on Sunday when he was off-duty, Ming Pao Daily reports.
Fong is attached to the Marine West division.
He said his uniform was inside a bag together with a shirt but police found no trace of it when they came to investigate.
The incident is being treated as theft. No arrests have been made.
A spokesman said police are looking into the matter from multiple angles but did not elaborate.
An officer who loses his uniform by negligence faces disciplinary action. A new set will be issued if the loss is accidental, according to internal police guidelines.
Policemen are not allowed to wear uniform when off-duty but they can bring it home for cleaning or leave it in the police station.
