Pieces of concrete fall off roof at Tai Wai bus station

The wide fluctuations in temperatures in the recent past appear to have taken a toll on some civic structures in Hong Kong.

On Thursday, pieces of a concrete roof at a public transport interchange outside Tai Wai MTR station fell off suddenly, Headline Daily reported.

Luckily, there was no one passing by at that time, so there were no injuries.

The accident took place at around 7:50 pm, when dozens of commuters were waiting for the 68K public light bus at the interchange.

Two pieces of concrete, covering an area of 3 X 3 meters, fell off from the roof all of a sudden.

The police sealed off the area after the incident. When firemen arrived at the scene later to clean up and do safety checks on the roof, another concrete block measuring 0.5 x 0.5 meters fell off nearby, news portal hk01.com reported.

The accident happened after temperatures in the city fell to 3 Celsius degrees last Sunday.

Housing estates in places such as Heng Fa Chuen, LOHAS Park in Tseung Kwan O and Wong Tai Sin have reported that floor tiles had bulged up due to weather changes.
