Former sports journalist Vince Ng Ka-him (伍家謙), known to many as the “sports prince”, narrated in a post on his Facebook account an incident he witnessed inside an MTR train.
His post, in which he sided with a man who scolded a mother for her little boy’s unruly behavior in a public space, has gone viral.
Ng said he boarded an almost empty MTR train on Monday.
A mother with her son and a middle-aged man with blonde-dyed hair boarded the train at an interchange station.
The little boy rushed to a seat, stood up and started running back and forth on the bench, Ng noted.
After a while, the man with dyed hair said, “Hey, ma’am, please get your son off the bench.”
The mother replied, “It’s just a child playing, there is …”
Before she could finish her sentence, the man exploded: “Then so what? Didn’t your boy walk on the ground? Are you sure his shoes are clean? The boy didn’t step on some f–king s–t? Why don’t you just lick the soles of your son’s shoes? It’s your son who stepped on other people’s seats.”
“Why are you scolding my son so fiercely?” the woman asked.
“I am not yelling at your son, I am scolding her mother, who happens to be you. Because you don’t f–king know how to teach him. He can’t step on other people’s seats!”
“It’s full of swear words, but the man’s got a point,” Ng remarked.
Netizens agreed and also sided with the man.
Some said doting parents often use the “he’s just a child” excuse when their children misbehave, but that’s not the way to raise children to become responsible citizens.
Meanwhile, some netizens said the man should not have uttered improper language in a public place, even though he may have a point.
