Tsuen Wan suffers traffic disruption as water pipe bursts

A water pipe burst near Dynamic Cargo Centre in Tsuen Wan on Monday, causing flooding on the roads and disrupting traffic in the area, the second such incident in the city in two days.

A sinkhole emerged near the intersection of Yeung Uk Road and Texaco Road at about 8:30 am, triggering a flood of yellow and muddy water that covered the streets nearby.

A van was seen stuck on the road due to the flood.

The Water Supplies Department told public broadcaster RTHK that a 30-centimeter-wide salt water main burst due to suspected ageing, and that workers had been sent to repair it.

Due to the accident, many lanes between Texaco Road and Wang Lung Street were closed to traffic and some bus routes were diverted, Apple Daily reported.

Water supply for homes on Tsuen Kwai Street and Tsuen Wing Street was suspended until at least 6 pm Monday, the Water Supplies Department said.

On Sunday, a water pipe burst in To Kwa Wan, causing major problems in the area.
