A Putonghua-speaking woman was seen having a bowel movement in the public area of the MTR’s Tsim Sha Tsui Station, Apple Daily reported Wednesday.
An MTR passenger surnamed Wong told the newspaper he saw the middle-aged woman squatting near Exit C of the station’s concourse Monday night, her trousers pulled down to the thigh area.
There was a piece of paper on the floor with some feces on it, Wong said.
Another woman with her hair in a ponytail was standing next to her, apparently watching over her companion.
Wong said he was shocked at how calm the woman seemed to be, as though she was used to defecating in public.
“I wanted to throw up and could not eat that night after seeing it,” Wong complained.
He said the many passersby all looked shocked.
MTR Corp. (00066.HK) confirmed that such an incident occurred Monday.
It said its staff immediately went to the scene to stop the woman, who “cleaned up” shortly afterward and left.
The firm said the area was then cleaned.
An MTR representative said passengers should endeavor to keep the station areas clean, and if needed, they can ask MTR staff to let them use the washrooms inside the station.
Under the MTR By-laws, any person found guilty of depositing waste matter or liquid on railway premises could be fined HK$5,000 and imprisoned for six months.
