One baby abandoned, another found dead in Macau building

A newborn baby girl was rushed to a hospital in Macau after she was found abandoned in a garbage can in a Macau residential tower, news website hk01.com reported Thursday.

A cleaner in Lei Yip Building in the Flower City housing complex in Taipa found the baby Wednesday morning.

The infant was suffering from a low body temperature, but fortunately her life was not in danger.

Nine hours later, while Macau police investigators were in the building’s public lobby, they noticed a Filipino domestic helper holding a plastic bag that turned out to contain a bottle with a stillborn baby inside it.

The woman said her baby boy died only four months into pregnancy, and she was going out to meet with a nun to pray for him.

An ambulance was called, and the baby was certified dead upon examination at a hospital.

Macau police said there was no initial evidence pointing to any criminal act in that case, but further forensic examination will be done.

The maid, who was taken to a police station for questioning, said she became pregnant in October and gave birth prematurely Wednesday morning.
